Red Rock Canyon |
The Red Rock Canyon
National Conservation Area [RRCNCA] is located just a few miles west of
Las Vegas and encompasses 197,000 acres within the Mojave Desert. The
area offers a 13-mile scenic drive, hiking, biking, rock climbing and
seasonal camping. A visitor center at the base of the scenic drive
offers in-depth information about the area's history, recreation,
geology, wildlife and vegetation. |

Las Vegas Motor Speedway |
One
of the most complete racing complexes in the world, its 1,600 acres
include road courses, a three-eighths mile oval, a dirt track and a
state-of-the-art drag racing facility. Located about 12 miles
north of downtown Las Vegas.

Lake Mead |
Lake Mead is the largest
man-made lake and reservoir in the United States. It is located on the
Colorado River about 30 mi (48 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada,
between the states of Nevada and Arizona. Lake Mead offers many types of
recreation to locals and visitors. Boating is the most popular.
Additional activities include, fishing (not recommended by the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service), water skiing, swimming, and relaxing in the sun.

Exhibits at the Las
Vegas Art Museum are always new and exciting and have included diverse
collections ranging from "100 Years of Influence: The Women Who Shaped
Las Vegas" to "George Hunter: 50-Year Photographic Survey of Canada."
But perhaps one of the most remarkable exhibits to date was "15 Emerging
Santa Fe Artists." Hours of operation: Tuesday - Saturday, 10
a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Cost: Tickets are $6
for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for students. Free for children under
12. |

Mount Charleston is
located approximately 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas, and is a
year-round getaway for Las Vegas' residents and visitors with a number
of ski resorts and hiking trails. During the summer it's 30
degrees cooler than Las Vegas. In the winter,
Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort
at Lee Canyon has ski runs ranging from easy to
difficult. Machine-groomed snow ensures good skiing conditions no matter
how light the snowfall. |
